Reaction of Cold-tolerant Adapted Rice Cultivars to Seedling Disease Caused by Pythium Species
نویسنده
چکیده
Stand problems consistently cause significant production losses and management problems in Arkansas rice fields. Previous research, funded by the Rice Research and Promotion Board, identified the role of environmental factors and soilborne plant pathogens in limiting rice stand establishment, and had the goal of determining the conditions where soilborne pathogens, especially Pythium species, play an important role in stand establishment and developing control strategies for reducing seedling disease losses. Current research is focusing on the selection of coldtolerant rice genotypes with increased resistance to Pythium damping-off at lower planting temperatures. Genotypes were found which had greater resistance to seedling disease caused by Pythium spp. It appears that cold-tolerant genotypes differ in resistance to Pythium diseases and that this character will need to be screened for separately as cold-tolerant cultivars are developed.

Managing Seedling Disease Problems on Rice Through Fungicides, Adapted Cultivars, and Cropping Systems
Stand problems consistently cause significant production and management losses in Arkansas rice fields. In 2002, many fields in Arkansas had severe stand losses. Three control practices are being examined in this project for managing stand losses due to seedling diseases: 1) seed treatment fungicides, 2) development of cold-tolerant cultivars, and 3) the use of disease-suppressive production sy...
متن کاملDeveloping Cold-Tolerant Cultivars with Seedling Disease Resistance to Pythium Species: Evidence for and Nature of Resistance in RU0701124
Pythium species are the most common seedling disease pathogens isolated from rice in producers’ fields in Arkansas. These studies examined the value of Pythium resistance in breeding lines with cold tolerance in early-season planting environments. These lines show promise for reliable stand establishment in Arkansas. The breeding line RU0701124 had more plants/acre and greater relative root wei...

The brown spot disease is one of the seed-borne diseases of rice, found in the all stages of its growth from nursery to farm. It causes qualitative and quantitative damage on rice. Therefore, some studies carried out on the different aspects of this disease and the reaction of some cultivars of rice against the pathogenic fungous agent of the diseases. To do so, 120 isolates, isolated from plan...

متن کاملAntioxidant Enzymes and Aldehyde Releasing Capacity of Rice Cultivars (oryza Sativa L.) as Determinants of Anaerobic Seedling Establishment Capacity
The activities of antioxidant enzymes and levels of antioxidants involved in oxygen detoxification were studied in seedlings of three indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars, namely Panikekoa and T 1471 that show good capacity for anaerobic seedling establishment (tolerant reaction) and IR 42 which has a poor anaerobic seedling establishment capacity (susceptible reaction). The activities of th...
